Mr Sam Patten

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mr Sam Patten, is a Melbourne based consultant specialising in arthritis and injuries of the hip and knee. Mr Patten has a strong focus on hip replacement surgery, and is a specialist in hip arthroscopy and revision hip arthroplasty surgery. Mr Patten also has extensive experience in surgical treatment of trauma, particularly acetabular, pelvic and femoral fractures.

Mr Patten's private practice is based in East Melbourne and he operates at the Epworth Hospital, Richmond, and the Mercy Private Hospital, East Melbourne.

Mr Patten gained his Royal Australian College of Surgeons Fellowship in 2002, and worked as Senior Joint Replacement Fellow at the prestigious Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, England, from 2003 – 2005, and was appointed Consultant Trauma Surgeon at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and Oxford University in 2004.

Utilising his international experience Mr Patten has developed his practice to provide the most up to date surgical techniques for treating all aspects of hip and knee arthritis, injuries and disease.

The recent advances of hip resurfacing, hip arthroscopy as well as the continued development of both primary and revision hip replacement provide greater options for successful long term treatment of hip disease, and form the basis of Mr Patten's practice.

Mr Patten's surgical procedures of the knee include partial, total and revision joint replacement arthroscopy and reconstruction surgery.

As one of the original Oarsome Foursome rowing crew members and three-time Olympic competitor, Sam Patten has continued his intertest in sport and the treatment of sporting injuries, with an understanding of the competitive demands on elite athletes.
